i need to set up mIRC on a computer that has proxy authentication, but i can't figure out how to configure it

Tools -> Options -> Connect -> Firewall and fill all the fields there.

And the problem is...? Any error? You could try Automatic proxy settings.

I'm not positive, but I don't think your allowed to connect to Msg's server while using a proxy.  I read something about that in the rules, and remember Time saying something about it.  I could be wrong though, but when I tried to connected with a proxy, it didn't work for me either.

Well... the port numbers aren't the same? No idea if there is a difference between 1080 and 80...

In mIRC you need to choose socks4 or socks5 where you have chosen "proxy" - find out whether that proxy is socks4 or 5 and select that. Then it should work.
