Pretty sure I won't need to explain that much, is there any free program that can do this?

hmm, you can just double click the sound icon and go to file > properties ... click on recording, and in there, you can choose whether you record form the pc, the microphone etc...

alternatively... couldn;t u use a double ended 3.5mm jack cable... e.g. one that'd plug into ur speaker socket... and could then be routed straight to microphone?

not sure if that'd suffice for what u need to do... but is an idea...

Ansette's idea would in fact be ideal, if it didn't cut out the speakers themselves (splitter cable anyone?).

actually, my sound card has headphones, speakers and line out, so it would work, because line out doesnt take away the sound from the speakers.
