O.P. TXT'in world record broken
A British factory worker has been crowned the world's fastest texter.
Craig Crosbie from Dumfries was awarded the title by the Guinness Book of Records after completing a complicated 25-word text in just 48 seconds.
The 24-year-old beat the previous record holder, James Trusler, 31, by 19 seconds.
He made the bid during a competition to find the UK's fastest texter held at The Carphone Warehouse's flagship store in London.
As well as defeating 11 other finalists to win the £50,000 prize, Craig also took home the world title.
The phrase he had to text read: "The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human."
Craig intends to buy a new mobile phone with his prize money.
He said: "It still hasn't sunk in. My phone has been ringing non-stop since I got home.
"I was quite confident of my time, because I held my nerves against the other regional winners, but I never thought I would make the world's fastest texter.
"I had two tries against James Trusler and both were under 50 seconds, so in the end he gave up and shook my hand."
Craig, who sends about 75 text messages a day, said he planned to spend some of his winnings on a luxury holiday with his girlfriend.
The speed, time and accuracy of each attempt was monitored using specialist equipment.
