Have you got a firewall? , If so check to make sure you are giving msn messenger access  to the internet.

It doesn't sound to me like the version you have installed, it sounds to me that the server that you've connected on is undergoing maintenance or something... All you can do is wait I'm afraid, maybe this is the start of another 2 hours of no msn thing :(....

i would of thought 7.0.0732 would not be able to sign in as support would of ended for it being a private beta. I hope you were a beta tester ;).

which version of windows do you have?

so do you have a firewall or no?

if you do, even the microsoft one, than shut it down and try running msn again. and see if it works :|

edit:
from the msn website follow these directions

"If you can't sign in to MSN Messenger, your Microsoft Internet Explorer connection settings  (Settings associated with your Internet connection.) might be preventing you from connecting to Microsoft .NET Passport or the Microsoft .NET Messenger Service. The MSN Messenger Connection Troubleshooter can often find and fix these problems. The Connection Troubleshooter starts automatically if MSN Messenger encounters a connection problem. If you choose not to use the Connection Troubleshooter, or it does not solve your connection problem, try the following:

To check Microsoft Internet Explorer connection settings, start Microsoft Internet Explorer and try to go to a website, for example www.hotmail.com. If the website does not open, your Microsoft Internet Explorer connection settings are not correct. If the page does open, your connection settings are correct, but there might be another problem."

EDIT 2: after doing this check, go here

and follow the directions either
under - Your Microsoft Internet Explorer settings are not correct
or under- Your Microsoft Internet Explorer settings are correct
