Downloaded new version of MSN Messenger and plus! But now with my contacts on my desktop they are showing offlien when they are not and also no name just the icon and the word unknown in brackets???

For all your contacts that you choose to display on the desktop, unselect. Then close MSN Messenger (fully exit by right clicking on the MSN Messenger icon in the system tray and clicking exit). Then reopen MSN and sign in, now when you add them, do they display correctly?
