When i change the color of a contactperson i see the smileys anymore, there all gone.

It's a limitation: colouring your contacts' names requires custom names to be enabled. As this option requires view by email MSN Messenger will think it displays the email addresses and not show emoticons (for email addresses cannot contain emoticons).
