RE: We Have a New Pope
Well it was an historic day for me, just to see it happening on the TV. They had their reasons for choosing someone older, as, and no disrespect to John Paul, was so they didn't make so many changes.
And as a statistic: Benidict XVI is the oldest cardinal to be assigned Pope with in a centuary.
I'll never forget how lucky I was 7477 days, 18 hours, 5 minutes, 19 seconds ago

Maybe they chose him because they didnt like any of the other choices, and next time round they have better choices.

Bah.. i think he is too narrow-minded it will be a shock for people, they were used to have an open-minded pope...

RE: We Have a New Pope
they chose an older one because of how long pope john paul lasted, they dont want a pope to last as long as that. can't remember where i heard that, but it's like, say we had tony blair as prime minister for 20 years!

RE: We Have a New Pope
Btw people, they didn't choose this pope for all of these reasons, I've already told you the reasons, it's to do with the ways that Pope John Paul II was, and the way that they don't want things to change, this means:
Catholics only following certain rules of catholocism to suit their needs (Selective Catholicism), they would like to have a conservative pope, and I think that this is what they've got.
I hope this pope lasts a while, they need to give people chances don't they, rather than just having one pope, it was an historical day for me aswell... He wasn't chosen because of the lengths of time he would last, he was chosen because he is a great man.

RE: We Have a New Pope
It has happened many times before, a pope is elected to by some time for choosing a pope they really want, this one sounds like hes anoher temporary pope untill they can find a real one
