Uh - ATI makes the best graphics chips out there - Nintendo just screwed the Gamecube over.


And I believe it's:
Nvidia = Xbox 360
ATI = Playstation 3

i think you'll find ATI AND NVIDIA

make the best graphics chips out there

both companies push each other to do better

and ati was pretty dogdy releasing a new range of cards that don't support SM3.0

Nintendo Revolution = ATI Hollywood

Nintendo Gamecube = ATI
PS1/2 Software based 3d acceleration
Xbox = Nvidia Geforce 3ti custom

if ati were the best. ati would be the ones with SM3.0 and not still stuck at sm2.1

Nvidia are currently playing the waiting game and will adapt the NV50 to outdo whatever ATI release

now that ati has made the slip up of not releaseing SM3.0 compatible hardware to compete with the 6x00 series ati has to play catch up

only thing is, nvidia learns from thier slip ups... unlike ati who still have major driver problems and thier opengl core still sucks

Nvidia are waiting for the next release from ati

im still waiting for the NV48 core 6800GT to be released

Somehow I seriously doubt it.
I don't know about the PS1, but the PS2 has TWO vector processing units. Now, to me, that screams 'hardware accelerated'.

As for the screenshots, the ones of just the cars... are you sure they're not photos?

if you sat back and took alook at the graphics you would know that its software accelerated

as most 2d cards have 2 vector processing uni

and vector graphics are nothing but calculations to begin with

This semester I've done a course called 'Computer Graphics'. Next year, I'll be doing 'Advanced Computer Graphics'.
Simple fact of the matter is: graphics is full of vectors. Vector units are optimised for vector calculus, CPUs for integer addition.
So guess which is faster at vectors?
Vector units.
Since a hardware implementation can always be made faster than software, don't you think vector units mean hardware acceleration?

I wouldn't react anymore on this kind of stuff, but seriously....

If you can determine if a graphic is created by using hardware accelerated calculations or software accelarated calculations just by staring at it, then you deserve a nobel price tbh...

on topic: those graphics look indeed awesome for the PS3. And unlike those posted earlier by blade these do look as real inline game screenshots. (You can clearly see the difference now which I'd tried to point out back then when blade posted the image of those two rugby players; of which I said was not a inline game sshot and even not a concept art graphic, but a simply edited photograph for promotional purpose).

on a sidenote @ JackSparrow: as blade correctly pointed out, he indeed already made (a) thread(s) about graphics from the upcomming PS3, so no need to create yet another thread about the same stuff. From the top of my my head I know that there are now at least 3 threads about PS3 graphics .... This isn't a game forum...The things we rant about (to blade) also goes for others
