O.P. Talk about computing market on your country!
So, that's it. A simple chat about IT market!
I'm a system developer, and i'm working on an American company (DuPont), in a brazilian plant ... here we have a lot of system programmers, IT personel, DBA, developers...
I'm curious about the opportunities in other countries, and i want to know how the market works in these countries (Like European Countries, or Australia, China, Russia, Mexico, Japan, etc)!
I'm inviting you to talk about your country, how to get a job, what type of jobs can be found there, how much the companies pay per hour (or month) of work, etc.
And I can start talking about Brazil. Here the market is growing up, but not much fast.
A lot of universities are teaching courses about IT and Software development, here we call "Technical Courses". These courses promisses to form a system engeneer, programmer, analyst and database administrator in 2 years. But in fact, the course do not teach well, or the major people just join the course because believe that will give a lot of money in the future, pure illusion.
The best professionals earn a cool money, but the fair professionals don't.
Here, a hour of a Specilist in VB6 earn about R$ 20,00 (Brazilian Money), equivalent to US$ 8,00. In .NET the value is a bit great: US$ 10,00. A Database administrator earn about US$ 9,00. This values can be different, depending the company.
If i remember a new info, i'll post soon.
Bye!

RE: Talk about computing market on your country!
Well,
Over in the United Kingdom (I personally live in England), there are lots of opportunities in IT Management etc. and the pay is quite sufficient, probably around £6 - £10 per hour at a normal job, at todays rates, this is probably around $12 - $20... So yes, the pay over here is quite good.
We have a good steady economy aswell, and we show no signs of moving to the €uro, so we're quite safe right now...

Here you can get any type of job, or even better, start your own company, seing our country has some IT Companys for some things(like hosting, web designing and w/e) but, being a foreign with experience and a good marketing prespective you could get the market in no time...
As for normal jobs, i have no idea on how much you'll get paid..

we probably will eventually, the government has bascially fudged it up so we will hold a reffurendum when they know that the euro will win.
And moving to the euro will be a good thing anyway :/

wow someone who wants the euro. everyone in my area (south london) hates it. sometimes i get the feeling im the only person who isnt xenophobic in the whole country. the euro will be a great thing but we will only go over when our economy is bad cause we wont have any other choice, but that wont happen till the tories get in which wont be for 5 years at least.

no, it will happen under labour, Labour want it to happen, but they need to hold a refferendum on it.

Wow man!
Great wages in UK!
So, if i understand well, they pay about £37,69 per Hour to a Analyst/Developer, and £1 = US$2, it's correct ?
Here in Brazil, very few people earn this wages...

Ow, ok... better now.
£37695 means US$75390.
This means R$ 182,443 per year or 15203 per month.
With R$ 15k, here we can buy a 1000cc car (economic), or a 500cc motorcycle, or a perifery apartment, or 5 top-line computers, or 2 laptops, or 375 DVD films (R$ 40 each), or 37 DVD Players.
A very nice house in a closed ville, high-standard, cost near to R$ 300000, so, in 20 months this house can be bought.
I earn 1/5 of this amount, and here this is a good wage.
Only directors, great salers, small company's owners earn 15k BRL.
