I've got the basics in place (I can find out if a user is using Custom Names in Messenger, that was easy). All I need to do now is figure out how to get the right key from HKCU\Software\Patchou\MsgPlus2\<email>\Contacts so I can get the right Custom Name.

yea you just need to find out how thy are encrpyted or whatever and only Patchou knows that i would think

Tried both e-mailing and PMing Patchou: no reply as yet. At one point, I thought it may be Base64, but it isn't.

well he's away at the moment, so when he gets back, he'll work through his emails and I'm sure you'll get a reply then.

And i don't think he reads PMs he gets too many.

And i guess Patchou would use his own encyption routine, rather than using a common one such as Base64 which could easily be decoded.

so has anyone cracked up this thing.... ?

I doubt Patchou will tell us. It's encrypted so contacts' e-mails are not visible by anyone on the system.

Anyway, I did ask Patchou (well, TB asked on my behalf). The answer was 'No', for security reasons. I decided not to push the matter, and am using e-mail addresses in toasts when Custom Names are on as a compromise.
