Hi, I'm reporting a problem which a friend of mine has:

She recieves the sign-in alerts properly but no sound is heard, neither works with new message alert. It doesn't work properly neither in MSN Messenger (last version, 7.0.0183) nor in Windows Messenger, but using WM gives a sound from the PC tower with each alert.

I looked for similar problems in this forum section and I found this thread: no sounds, but there's not solved yet.

BTW: she is able to play music, and all the other Window sounds (ie: the recycle bin) are heard properly.

Does she have all the sound options ticked in Tools > Options > Alerts & Sounds

Also does she have Plus notification sounds active?

Both of them ticked, yup.

The only solution I've found is ticking both messenger's and plus' alerts and using the custom sign-in sounds plus feature, but I still need a solution for the new message sounds (and a proper solution for the whole problem ).

Does she have conflicting sounds with the MSN sign in and a Plus sound? This could cause some interference

I tried using only Plus! alerts and then only Messenger alerts and the problem's still there anyways.

Running any other plugins/patches?

Nope, clean Messenger with clean Plus! (without plugins).

BTW: sounds from nudges don't work either.

How about trying to reinstall MSN? She could have accidentally deleted sound files from the MSN Messenger Folder

The sound files are there and work properly (I tried to open them with Winamp and it succeeded). Anyways, I'm going to reinstall messenger on her PC and I'll let you know.

EDIT: She has just told me she reinstalled Messenger last night and it didn't solve her problem.

You could try uninstalling Plus! to see if the sounds work without Plus! then if they do its Plus! related, if not its MSN related.
