I think that it would be a good idea to have a program to sort the 'add remove programs' list in to catagories. So it would be like
Microsoft Programs:
Game Programs:
[add catagory]
etc

It would make the list alot more tidy and easier to use

Edit: My thread was moved. I thought about posting it in 'Tech Talk' but then thought I wouldn't because I was just seeing what you guys think... Is it a bad thing that it was moved?

I don't think this exists, and I also don't think it'll be easy to create. For example, how does the organiser know what item classifies as 'game'? Or would you group them yourself? Seems a lot of work while the list is already in alphabetical order

even i doubt...and someone can seriously mess up their comp if they try to do so!

Hmmm, ist prob not even doable, unless patching some XP system files, thus making it illegal (correct me if im wrong)

Anyways, if it had to be sorted manually, i would never use it, u know how time consuming it would be for people with a lot of programs...

Yeah... I was just /thinking/ that it would be a good idea. You would have to sort the list yourselft. Maybe microsoft could do it...

I am fine with the way it is sorted now, but that would be pretty cool if there was a program that you could organize it yourself.

I don't see how you could mess up a computer by making a program which simply lists some items though... (however, I've seen people messing up PC's by sticking magnets to their pc's :/ )...

both are very doable...  of course making an external program is much much easier...

Such sorted things would always require manual input/labour.

Anyways, the add/remove programs list is nothing more then a very simple and dumb list of the items found in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall


It is extremely easy to create an external program which does exactly the same, but listing it in a fancy listview/treeview and add some bells and whistles...

I'm pretty sure patching is always illegal.. But it would be a good thing for the new version of windows... I know I get lost looking through all the programs sometimes...
