Windows Desktop Search will index and search MSN Chat logs, but I have been using Messenger Plus for years and have archives going back at least 2-3 years so I continue to use the Messenger Plus feature.

When using Windows Desktop Search though, the "IM Chats" button doesn't work. My chats are stored in My documents\My Chat Logs.

Anyone know how/where to move those to so the WDS will find them? Will it look in the .TXT files M+ uses?

Windows won't look into the Plus! logs for two reasons:
1. It won't be able to decrypt encryted logs
2. It doesn't know the format of the logs

But they are just text files, at least here. I don't encrypt them.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to use both logging systems, though WDS will only search prospectively, and my data in that folder would be double. Triple really as MSN seems to use XML. Nothing like bloating it up for simple logging eh?

They may be (sometiems encrypted) textfiles, but there's the internal structure of the data to consider.

There may be an api for me to use to let Desktop Search access my files properly. Please email me at mplus@patchou.com about your request and I'll see what I can do.
