Insert your bootable Windows XP cd, and reboot your computer

Then, when it says "Press any key to boot from cd" press any key.

Now, when it finishes loading, go to "Install Windows"

Select the partion you want to install windows on.

If you select the partion you currently have windows installed, I think
that it should say that windows is already installed on that partion.

I think that you choose to install windows, and then it will ask you if you want to format that partion.

A full format is better [Image: msn_happy.gif]

But, it's harder to get lost files due of the format...

Im not so sure about the above, but I think thats how it is.

Maybe someone that knows better can tell you... :P

Basically, boot up from the Windows Install CD, and then select the partition that you have Windows installed on (C:, D:, etc.) Most likely your C: drive though. After that, select Format, then reinstall Windows.

RE: Win Xp Key/Format PC
Need any help with that type of stuff, PM me; I crash my computer close to 3 times a week for the fun of it :P

I might point out that C_D was almost right.

To format:

1. Reboot your computer.
2. Boot into a DOS Command Prompt (BEFORE WINDOWS LOADS)
3. Type format <drive letter:>
4. It will ask you if you want to delete the data on removable disk <drive letter:>
5. Type y (yes).
6. It'll reformat it.
7. When it is done, reboot, edit your BIOS so the first boot device is CD-ROM.
8. Insert WINXP Disc, and reboot.
9. Boot from XP Disc, and follow instructions to reinstall Windows.

PM me if you have any other questions.

Do you have the latest drivers installed(Graphics Card) ?What about the latest drivers for your monitor?

I don't think for my monitor, when i go to Display settings it just says "default monitor" and greyed out properties. I have a Dell TFT Monitor but i don't know the model name

if you have the dell windows cd, you probably also have another cd with all the drivers in (including screen) if not.. you can call dell up and they will send it. (it arrived the next day for me when i was fixing up my sister's dell laptop)
