What's the best AVI codec in terms of quality, compression, and compatibility, excluding DivX/XviD? When I encode an AVI, there's this dodgy list of codecs to choose from...

I think all of those were included with WinXP... which should I use? O_o

Why not use XviD?

AFAIK most people (especially the less computer-literate ones) don't have DivX/XviD codecs installed. Correct me if I'm wrong... I'd be interested in seeing some statistics...

I'd go for Microsoft H.263 Video Codec, it sounds standard

AFAIK, WMP10 downloads codecs if they aren't installed. I think those get downloaded, too.

the Indeo codecs arnt too bad. try them
