ok today I went to my friends house we had fun. Then like 20 min before I left I broke his giant wood table. I made a leg snap off. It had 4 legs. Aproxamatly 2m wide 1m high.  So I Put it sorta back but everytime you move the table it falls off again.

I need to know what I can do to fix it as good as possible before his parents find out and I have to pay em. It needs to be something unnoticable so If I do fix it and they see that it has been fixed I will be in crap.

I dont have time to explain what happened but If you really want to know give me a shout on MSN

please help  I dont want to buy them a 100$ new table .

ps: my friend thought it was funny but after 5 min he got mad

try a glue stick?...or super glue?...or break it and put it together so when it falls they think they broke it?...but i think glue stick would work best

i was thinking about that but when that happens my friend will tell his parents what happened.

Uhh... just get some wood glue and apply a good amount to the broken leg, put it back in position, make sure there's weight on it, wipe off the excess glue with a wet rag, and hope nobody moves the table before the glue dries.

(This stuff is very strong when fully dried, even stronger than the wood itself)

For some added strength, you could drill a hole in the leg and a hole in the table and insert a dowel rod.

I'm no expert though; there's probably a better way...

There is something called wood glue. Its ment to keep pieces of wood together.

Wood glue works excellent, just when waiting for it to dry, don't disturb it, it'l loosen it up ad won't work that great. 


I'm sure if your honest and act innocent enough that they'll let you off.

I say tell the parents what happened and then see if you should repair it or tell them that it was a budget table anyway...

You do relise that if the table does break again ,,it will break where its weakest point is,where it was fixed....so the wood glue will be noticiable..or if a dowel rod is used they'll certainly see that...

so whats worse being caught for breaking a table leg..or being caught later not only for breaking something ,,but trying to cover it up as well?

Depends on how skilled he is. It can be fixed almost unnoticible, with glue, with a rod, whatever. But it extremely and highly depends on various things. eg: depending on the type of wood, depending on the surface area, etc, you need to choose your special type of glue or even choose your special type of method to fix. With using rods this is just the same. Using wood rods is a skill, not some quick-fix. If you all do it correctly, it could even be stronger as before, but ONLY when you do it absolutely perfectly, and if you are patient and put enough time in it. There is no "quick-fix". Don't attempt to use super-glues or that kind of stuff...

All this is like "don't try this at home, let the pro's carpenters handle this".

Exactly...

SonicSam, unless you are a carpenter, do not try to fix the table youself, it WILL be noticible and you'll do only MORE damage to the table...

Just say that it was an accident. It might be that you need to pay a small amount for it, but you'll pay much more if they found out about it (and they WILL) and you didn't say a thing...

Please take this advise from us "grownups" (and my advise as "been there-done that" dude (don't ask), and as hobby, but very experienced, carpenter (I've been making sceneries for theater plays for years in my free time) )
