RE: Record a stream
erm... stream? define what you exactyl mean, the only way i have been able to do it is via my webcam using Windows Movie Maker and then before editing it, it saves a wmp file that you can play, but im not to sure if this applies to you as im not too sure what you define as a video stream,

You could try WMRecoder (i think that is the name, but will double check it). It can capture video streams, just enter the stream URL and the destination path, and it'll record.

RE: Record a stream
you'll need the url.. but most smart people encript thier html to prevent Aholes from leeching, they also dbl encript by using a wpl playlist and encripting the playlist sourcecode. So its litraly imposible for you to get the URL of the video specialy when they have it on a difrent server. On top of that, they will also block right clicking of wmp embedment. But thats off topic so lol... anyways... if you wanna record video streams ... its obviusly gonabe an embeded wmp so:
Assuming the your downloading the video from is a noob
heres what u do...
1) Right click on the video
2) Select Properties
3) Highlight the url in the "Contents:" (very bottom info)
4) Use a download manager and add the url and download it!
you can also make it so your wmp doesnt respond to wmv's so that it will download it isntead of stream it.. unless its an embed if it is.. then this wont work
If the movie is not an embed (launches on your windows media player) then all you have to do is make it so wmp doesnt play wmv's

Good one right there, unregistered you can do 2 minutes at a time, but works well.

This would work for downloading a WMV file via HTTP, however most WMP streams are streams from a MMS (Microsoft Media Serivces) server, and files streamed from a MMS Server cannot be downloaded.
WMRecorder can record streams streamed via MMS, the only thing i noticed is that some MMS streams have a "welcome clip" type thing when you first play the stream before switching to the actuall stream. For such streams WMRecorder will only record the "welcome" clip and then stop

If I could save as, I wouldn't have to ask about it

Got no intention to buy or 'buy' at all
Yeah, I think WMRecorder is the best, but too bad we have to pay for newer version.
Thanks to Salem who offered the older version of WMRecorder

RE: Record a stream
you can also try with a download manager like flashget, I download mms files all the time with it and just save to my hd so I can play them when I want.
