I just ignored it.

It is because Google is experiencing a high amount of traffic from your network or ISP - because of viruses or trojans which may be running a Denial of Service attack on them.

To protect themselves, they disable Google for users on the range/network that is affected and for you to receive access again, and have your machine specifically unblocked, you need to enter the validation code.

Nah, Google just loves CAPTCHAs.

Though I wouldn't have thought that Google would be worried about bandwidth, if I worked there I'd certainnly be exploiting the network.

their not they just dont want to 1) aid virus's or 2) let people make auto searches without using their api.

I got the same messege when i was making a google spellchecker that used the page that the google toolbar uses (of course i was hitting their server lots with requests... )
