beamy-kitty, nice find. However the problem described in that thread was that the XSL and XML were on different server locations (or one on server the other locally or something), if I'm not mistaken. Normally you shouldn't change any security option in MSIE in order to view the Messenger chat logs as they are all locally stored.
So, it is well possible that TomKen simply has misplaced his MessageLog.XSL file or even has deleted it. Giving the same main error... And thus doesn't need to alter any security setting.

That shouldn't be the complete error. Was there anything else said beneath this (in bold text)?
Anyways, before trying what beamy-kitty has suggested in that quote she gave, make sure you have the mandatory MessageLog.XSL file in the same directory as where the XML chat logs are.
If you're missing the file, then reinstall/repair MSN Messenger (Add/Remove programs > MSN Messenger > Repair) and that should take care of the problem.

The XML files contain the actual conversations. The MessageLog.xsl file contains the layout of how those logs are being viewed. If that file is missing you'll get that exact same error.
