My friends and i all put emotes around our names to liven them up. But if i wanna change just one person's name with the custom names thingy it disables them all in all of them. I would like it to not disable them, wat does everyone else think?

Its a limitation and isn't something that will/can be fixed.

Has to be set by email address, as that is a constant that doesn't change, unlike the display name.  Then Plus! changes the email to the custom name you have set.  But as Messenger thinks it is actually showing the email address, it doesn't parse for emoticons.

So basically you either have normal display names with emoticons in, or custom names but without emoticons in. 

Darn! Some of my friends have odd nicknames and I would rather just have their normal names, but to do that I need to disable emoticons. Maybe they should find a way to make it so that they can keep the emotes.

Windows Live Messenger (WLM) will have a contact renaming feature too. And because Messenger Plus! Live (MP!L) will only work on WLM, i think MP!L won't have a contact renaming featue anymore. WLM's renaming feature is simply better, because it keeps emoticons intact .

But you have to wait until WLM and MP!L will be publicly released for that.

First of all, this isn't exactly a "feature"... its not like it's coded to do that just because patchou was bored, and its not like it can be just removed. Also, testing what menthix said, it works fine with WLM's renaming feature.

You could always rename the ones with the odd name. Then, with the ones you want to stay the same, just tick the box "Attach the original name to the custom name". Or you can simply enter, (!N) in the space provided.

That's what I did.

But every name has emoptes in it, so changing just one disables them all. For example, on name is Name and every person on my contacts list has that with a different emote. It's just something we do.

I don't know why, but it shows the contact's name here if I don't put a custom name for the person. But even if it is not like that for you...

I don't like the renaming feature in WLM though, as it does not have as much details as in Plus. You can't set the person's name in color, you can't attach the original name after, etc.

Maybe there'll be a feature in MP!L that allows you to add colours and tags.

maybe wlm contact list renaming feature will be improved before final version
