The Emotions won't show up in my Contacts list

You might have custom names enabled. Emoticons don't work with custom names.

It is ticked its the contacts list which has no smilies in

Custom names is ticked?
If thats the case then as Chris4 said, you wont see emoticons in your contact list.
Its a well known limitation of the custom names feature. Because of the way they are applied you wont be able to see the emoticons in your contact list.
You can either disable custom names, or get used to not having emoticons.
