I click the update feature from the plus tab in msn messenger the download works but once it has finished it shows the 3.62 installion file not the 3.63 installion file why is this happening?

Would like a reponse thanks

Which only gets updated about a week after release, to prevent bringing the servers down.

Yup!

It's not "best" though, you'll get the same version.

If you don't wanna wait a week before the auto-update feature kicks in, then yes, download it manually.

Note that the auto-update feature only checks once a week for a new build.

Also, Patchou sometimes waits to enable the new build to be reconized by the auto-updater to make sure the new Plus! build is free of severe bugs.

The logic behind it is that many people will download Plus! manually as soon as it is released and therefor are the "test-dummies" for this new build. If a severe error is discovered, Patchou can still fix it and make another build, before millions of people get a notice of a new build being available and before it is downloaded by masses.

So, if you wanna know what is "best" or "safe" (again, if such a thing exists), it would be to wait until the auto-update kicks in.

I understand what everyone is saying, but why is the auto update kicking in at all? If the auto update feature doesn't know that MP! 3.63 has been released, why is it prompting people to update, then updating to 3.62?

Are you sure you were already running MsgPlus! 3.62 at the time of updating?

The problem is that Patchou apparently hasn't updated the file which is being downloaded with the auto-update (or forgot to update the link in the update notification which Plus! receives)...

To install the latest version, manually download it from http://www.msgplus.net/

I'll inform Patchou that he forgot to update that file...

The auto-update works as follows:
- Every week, Plus! contacts home and retrieves a small string (the latest build number). It then compares this to the currently used build number (that is, the number stored in the registry).
- If the currently used build number is lower, it notifies you of a new build being available and asks you to update.
- If you accept this, Plus! retrieves another small string from home, the one with the link, to download the new Plus! from...

The first one, the one with the new build number, has been correctly updated to 3.63.148. However the one containing the link to the new Plus! has either the wrong (old) link in it, or Patchou has forgot to update the actuall file pointed to by that link (it is a copy of the file that you manually can download from the official site)
