O.P. WLM 8.0.0683 shared folder problem
Hi there,

i switched yesterday from the official BETA 0566 to the leaked BETA 0683.
Everything looks fine, but only one thing - i think the best of WLM8 is not working. The shared folder, does not work anylonger.
I get only the message that i should try a few minutes later.
So i checked with the microsoft-tool for problems and found out, that one DLL is not registered correctly.
usnsvc.dll seems to be making problems.
Is it just on my installation, or is there anybody out there with this problem, too?

Please let me know...

But for the rest of you who does not use the shared folders, you can be safe an install this version. It works fine - but remember that there are some light known bugs as well. :)

So come on guys... anybody with a solution out there?

If you don't want bugs etc. stay away from beta software...esp. leaked beta software (no support, not ment for the public).

We will not help you with any consequences it might have if you use leaked (thus illegal) software.

Well what a pure ignorance here lives ;)
So well if you have read my posting carefully you should realize that i not crying like a dumb little noob for help.
I only asked if someone other have the same problem,
cause i am not sure if it is a real problem by the intall package, or if it depends on other software intalled on my system.
The shared folder are not essential for me using the WLM,
i thought that anybody here knows that.
But okay... now you know it.

What means leaked? Sooo...uhm... i used it like others who downloaded it from the adresses postet on [www.mess.be].
illegal? not really ...
Well sure they are not for the public, but they found the way to the public - so now they are public. Do you agree?
Fine... illegal? Not really... so if you blame me for using illegal software, please look at the software installed on your computer... and all licensed? i hope for you.. So shut up talking about illegal using of free-software-betas, that hurts my brain, and many others, too.
So for now i do so that i have not read the last 2 postings full of ignorance... :)

So come on, who is using the build 0683 and can verify the same issue?

Doesn't matter if your a crying little noob or not... If anybody... even one of the best forum members would come here wanting help with a leaked beta we'd refuse support.

Not ignorance.... just abiding by the rules... there's a difference.

Uhh well just for info and the real dumb checkers who say rules are principal and so on...

So well remember that i am not a staff of the real beta-team or anything else... but the msn-team answered my question, cause they get feedback. Hold this in your mind... when you type next time ... "we do not support blah blah blah cause rules and such other nuts"...

Ines Khelifi answered:

Yes, we currently have some issues with upgrade scenarios. Quick fix is to uninstall then reinstall the build and that should do it.

Thanks for reporting this!

Subject: Sharing Folders Feedback - <shared folders not available>

If you are reporting a Sharing Folders issue, please be sure to run the diagnosis and log packaging operations from the Sharing Assistant.

Thank you for providing your feedback and making sharing better!

Describe your problem and/or feedback below:
_____________________________________________________________________________

Hi there at the WLM-team,

i downloaded the WLM BETA from www.mess.be [direct link follows]
http://www.mess.be/inews.shtml#newsitemEEuVFZlkAZUxbRpijc

Yes i know it is a leaked beta, but i was so curious so i decided to risk an install.
Seems it worked fine, but maybe the update does not work properly with the shared folders? So i can't use the best feature in this version. Maybe a bug in the update-routine if you used the official beta build 0566 first and then update?

The [SharingAssistant.exe] gives me the following output.
Just for your information pleasure the result:

<SECTION SYSTEM CHECKS BEGIN>

File System is NTFS.
Windows version is compatible. Current version is: 5.1.2600
Messenger version supports Sharing Folders. Version number is 8.0.683.0
Dfsr.dll version is correct. Version number is 8.0.683.0
Usnsvc.dll version is correct. Version number is 8.0.683.0
Usnsvcps.dll version is correct. Version number is 8.0.683.0
[FAILURE] usnsvc.dll is not registered.
<SECTION SYSTEM CHECKS END>

---cut rest of the log here---

Seems it is the error?

Can't register the dll manually with:
regsvr32 "C:\Programme\MSN Messenger\usnsvc.dll"
following error occured:
---------------------------------

C:\Programme\MSN Messenger\usnsvc.dll wurde geladen,
aber der DllRegisterServer-Eingangspunkt wurde nicht gefunden.
Diese Datei kann nicht registriert werden.

----------------------------------
Yes it is a german error-message *sorry* :)

So i decided to switch back to the official beta build 0566,
but hopes it will give a new official beta, with the new cool look :)
With kind regards...

it means when a private BETA has been put out for selected beta testers and one tester takes the beta and uploads it to a P2P program or a torrent website, thus making the beta avaliable to non-testers.

basicly if you can discribe the problem with "i upgraded from Official .xxx to leaked .yyy" then thats your problem. the only reason you can call something leaked is because ite not ready yet, and the only option support wise you have is to get rid of it and you the OFFICIAL version
