I want my Windows live Messenger main window to be as small as possible so it won’t take too much space on my desktop.

how about an auto-resize option that will always adjust the window size to the smallest it can be without hiding anything in the contact list vertically (aka when the scroll bar appear) or horizontally (aka when the "..." appear)

That would be really cool !

It may be cool, but it'd be very difficult to do reliably.

why would that be so difficult exactly ?

Getting the size of the list itself, ans dealing with stuff like tabs.

I don’t know very much about programming…but I am sure that there is an indicator of some sort that indicate when the “scroll bar” appear (or has to appear) on the right side of the contact list and another indicator when the “…” appear (or has to appear) at the end of a contact name !?!?!?!?

What are the conditions that make those things happen?

You just have to program the auto-resize with those indicators...but...just resize the contact list a few pixel bigger.

i dont know what problem you may have with the tabs !?!? anyway, lets say that option will be available only if you dont use tabs !!!

Yes, but my original point remains: knowing how small you can make the window is still a very difficult task. Especially with the windows Messenger uses.
