O.P. Feature Request: Displaying contacts in a Grid Layout
I've using MsgPlus! for yonks! And so far its been so amazing that we get to use heaps of cool stuff that the original MSN Messenger doesnt provide at all.
For the first time in 4 years of using MsgPlus! I'm feeling a bit interactive.
I just wanted to suggest that it would be totally cool to have a feature on MsgPlus! which arranges all the contacts in a grid layout on the main/contacts messenger window. This way It doesnt waste up so much space (or have so much useless blank wasted space) on the right side when the window is maximised. It would also be easier to edit and manage contacts this way.
Check Attachment if you still dont get what I mean...

RE: Feature Request: Displaying contacts in a Grid Layout
hmm when i read the Thread name i was a little hesitant on this feature but when i saw the screenshot i know exactly what you mean. However I believe for this to be done, it would be next to near impossible.
The only way around it would be for Patchou to make a second contact window, that would be more similar to a folder type thing. Just minimize or close the main messenger window, and leave this "folder" window open. Clicking on contacts would open their message window, etc. Also the option to change views from large (thumbnails) to list view as well.

Yeah this is what I thought as well. Its a good idea to attach a panel (or a folder type thing) to the groups-dropdown item and list contacts in that in preferable layouts... rather than the group-dropdowns being shown with listable items belonging to a tree structure.

I belive this is a marvellous idea. With a contact list of 164 people, its hard to find certain groups of people that are not grouped together.
jordanspringer: its only next to near impossible, not 100% impossible. If it is a worthawhile feature, Patchou may add it on.

I agree, it's a great idea. Maybe Patchou will code that or a script will do that

I personally don't like it Because if your reason is that you have to many contacts then that would just make it harder because they are like 5 times the size and would take up more room... and if you need to find someone just type the first 3 letters of their name or email in the search bar at the top...if you don't know them and you want this added in the next plus why not just give your contact a name?... it just seems like to much of a hassle imo

Yes i'm pretty sure it would be impossible to impliment this in the Messenger contact list window, it would have to be in its own "Folder like" style window, with multiple view options. And for those who would not like this feature, simply turn it off

RE: Feature Request: Displaying contacts in a Grid Layout
I'm going to put money on the fact that this is indeed impossible. The contact list is some sort of list box derivative, and i doubt it has support for multiple rows. Maybe, its more advanced than just an obfuscated listbox, and maybe, it has column support. But I doubt it.

I dont really think it is impossible. Rather than just getting contact objects from somewhere and putting them under a dropdown, you can just get them, add them all to a different panel and add that panel to the dropdown... I'm not a software pro but this is what i reckon could work...

I like this idea of yours! Makes the interface much neater and finding contacts would be much easier (if there are thumbnails on them too)
