RE: help on super mario 64
to make the boxes appear, you need to get to the level with the switch to turn them on -- the one for flying is a lot further in the game... to get it, you have to stand in the middle of the main room and look straight up with the C buttons, and it will take you to a secret level with the switch. (you can't get to this level until you activate something-or-other -- i haven't played in ages)

You have to get stars until in the central room of the castle will appear a light pointing right to the drawing on the floor. When you'll se the light, step on the drawing, switch the camera mode until you are really close to mario's head and have look up, you'll be transported in a secret level where you'll find the red switch.
Edit: -Damo is faster than me :°

there are three caps, blue (invisible), green (metal), and winged (flying). Each has a different level with a switch to turn them on. the level that has a switch for winged caps is the secret one in the lobby (get 10 stars and look at the sun in the lobby's ceiling to access it.)

RE: help on super mario 64
Ghost A7X:
- Get 10 stars.
- Then go out to the front of the castle (area you start).
- Go inside and you shall see a beam of light shining onto the sun on the floor.
- Look up to where the light is coming from.
- Stomp the huge red switch.
- You will exit the level, and now EVERY red wingcap box will be solid.
- Now you can fly.
Simple?
