what's the best program to edit videos?

to split a video, like to cut out certain scenes.

and to join 2 movie files?

P.S i have tried AVI splitter and AVI joiner, and i get a weird glitch during the video, like it freezes then you hear the sound then see the picture.

and i have tried windows movie maker and it just keeps crashing.

why does no one ever mention virtualdub? it pwns joins, cuts avi / mpg  (not wmv from movie maker, for that you need to convert it first (tmpgenc express?)) + more

edit: dodgy wysiwyg editor

VirtualDub(Mod). I just used it now, worked perfect first go, took a miniscule amount of time.

Because it isn't a video editor Not in that sense anyway.

i am having problems with adobe premiere pro. i have split a certain scene from a movie and exported it to a avi, and i go to play it VLC. the video plays, but theres no sound.

EDIT: i found out that the sound is VBR. and that is why there is no sound in adobe premiere pro. i have no idea how to convert that sound. and help would be awesome.

Sony Vegas is pretty good

i would go with abode premier pro.....alos there is one with i am not to sure on the features but looks good is pinnicle studioes 10
