I am running Windows XP Media Centre edition, for some reason when I go to install plus live it says "This version of Messenger Plus! requires Windows XP or above. Press OK to download a version suitable for your operating system", so now plus is installed but is not compatible...what is wrong?

Make sure you are not trying to run the setup in compatibility mode, right-click>Properties>Compatibility
