Hi, patchou told me to post in this forum (the translation forum) for information about how to get a .ee (estonian) domain name? It is extremely difficult to get, I have been trying for ages.
Here is my original post link: http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=68698
Patchou mentioned it is because alot of translators from different countries are known here.

Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador and                   Spain.
In Bolivia, a private person cannot register a                   domain; only institutions or businesses can register, whether                   or not they are constituted inside the country.

In                   addition, in Spain and Ecuador only institutions/organizations                   (constituted inside or out of the country) can register;                   persons can register a domain only as a name of a registered                   trademark, for which they must be the owner.

In Brazil                   the owner of the domain is required to be native to or be a                   resident of the country.

Been there, done that, I've been on both sites you've suggested :(
Oh, and at http://www.marcaria.com/Estonia/Domains/domain-re...ion-ee-estonia.htm
if you type in a name to search for, it will not bother to search, it will instead redirect you to http://www.marcaria.com/register/domain/domain_re...sp?country=Estonia , which is used to get .CO.ee domains (and co.ee is not a real, or "official" domain extension for estonia, it is simply a subdomain registration by "code owners OÜ" (according to whois output for co.ee)). And marcaria.com will charge you for .co.ee. At EENET, .ee domains are free, but only one is allowed per company...
From what I can see, patchou must have got hold of a company in estonia that was willing to give up its 'one domain slot' (only one domain can be registered per company) to register msgpluslive.ee on his behalf (as in, by proxy). Either that, or patchou got someone in estonia to setup a temporary company, register the domain in that company's name, then declare the company as "dissolved"... aww.. I dunno. I tried to get someone to do that once, but they failed... patchou, how did you succeed if you did it that way? Could you get that person to do the same for me???

Hi,

The official rules suggest that your dissolved company idea wouldn't work -- it is specifically stated that, when the legal entity ceases to exist, the domain name registration is deleted as well.

What I think you are missing is that it doesn't take a lot to maintain a company, presumably even in Estonia.  A "company" is simply a registered legal entity which doesn't have to exist in any physical form or actually do anything.  I would be surprised if creating a company in Estonia requires much more than a registration by someone living there and the payment of  applicable fees, or if there is any restriction on one person registering more than one company.

The whois data for msgpluslive.ee shows it registered to a company named "MG GRUPP" in Tallinn and a hunch tells me the listed contact is a certain Estonian user of this forum.  So, I don't think Patchou has "got around" any restrictions and has any advice for you -- what most likely happened here is someone in Estonia registered the company and the domain name, in full compliance with the rules as they are written.

Which makes one wonder -- are you in Estonia?  Why do you want an .ee domain so badly?

I want one for the same reason as patchou got his for... for my site in a different language. I am planning on making my site available in different languages... still, I didn't think of asking the contact listed for msgpluslive.ee, thanks.. I think I will try and see what they say, or do you think that's not such a good idea?

Sorry, im a bit late, but...

As Patchou said in the other thread, he has many translators in many countries who are willing to help Patchou in every way. Im one of those and from now on - also the only Estonian translator in Plus! Live translation make-up.

Yes, it is indeed difficult to obtain yourself a .ee domain. You have to be a self-employed entrepreneur or just own a firm you can register the domain under. I can assure you that domain msgpluslive.ee has it's rights to use the firm it is registered under. Though, it took long way to get there.

Hint: you just need to have some contacts to get something you desire so badly.
