I found a bunch of files such as sqmnooptoo.sqm  that I can not open.  Thought they may be pictures but do not know.  On the web no one knows but there are a lot of guesses and some suggest it came through messenger.  ALSO, how does one copy and paste one of the smiles into this message?

The sqm files are "Software Quality Metrics" data collection files, some sort of cache.

They are related to the Microsoft Customer Experience Program (part of Messenger and other MS products for that matter; eg: Office, Media Player, etc can all generate them). Even if you opted out of the Custom Experience Program in the particular program, they still can/will be generated (maybe because they are also related to dump info for when you crash).

They can safely be deleted.

When posting anywhere on this forum, next to it will be a box with smilies in them. Just click one and it will add a line of text such as:

:_) (without the underscore, mind)

If you click either Preview or Post Reply, that line of text will be replaced by the smilie you clicked on, in this case, it will look like this:

In future you can use the noparse tag e.g.
