I recently got a Maxtor DiamondMax20 160GB Hard Drive, and i installed it and it comes up in device manage but not in My Computer, anyone know what the problem is?



I have : Windows XP Professional SP1

Is there a partition on it?

Windows only shows Partitions and not Devices in My Computer.

there are no partitions..

Then make partitions on it , right click on My Computer and choose Manage, go to the Disk Manager and find your disk and create new partitions.

This may seem irrelevant  but have you tried updating to SP2?

I have a pirate version XP (boo) so i cant..

try and get a pirate version of sp2 then

goto start

all programs

administrative tools

computer management

under storage goto disk management format it and assign it a letter...

i had to do this the other week

erm.. Microsoft has allowed owner of pirated windows xp regardless of RTM or service pack 1 to install service pack 2.
The pirated version of service pack 2 is pathetic imo.
