i'm looking for a software with which you can make comics. i dont know if it was meant for that but i saw someone using it for that. in the window title it said free version or something which means there should a be a paid counterpart. the actual gui is just a large grid where you color separate pixels to make something similiar to this quality: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/54771488/

hmm. This one's not side by side though. Well, not specifically. A quick google turns up some Windows tools like Gold Disk Animation Works Interactive, Astound, and I'm quite certain there's an adobe tool for this too. Director?
