Okay, well i assigned some sounds for 4 of my contacts on my list and as soon as i applied them, all that happens is the sound plays - no sign in notification on the bottom right corner of my screen and the contact still appears offline, even when i speak 2 them. Someone please help! on my old computer i did the same thing a few years back and had no problems!

If you are using Plus! for the notifications aswell make sure you got both options ticked:



Or set a different one for the notifications (for those contacts, for some or for all contacts) if you so desire.

Otherwise make sure it's still set in messenger preferences:
Tools > Options > Alerts and Sounds
...make sure "display alerts when contacts come online" is checked and along with that you may want to untick the sound for "Contact Online" to have sound only for those you've set one for through Plus!

The appearing offline could be they are on "appear offline" or because of serverglitches.

wow another sunshine! anyway, i did everything you told me and it kinda worked... the sound played and the visual alert on the bottom right came up, but then when i clicked on it, it said they're offline, even though she can talk 2 me, and told me she wasnt set 2 appear offline. Nooo!! almost worked!! half way there.

As i said the "offline" might be because of server glitches (in wich case it gets solved on its own). How long has it been like that?

ever since i installed plus! this afternoon. ive asked 2 friends 2 sign in n out 4 me and the same thing happens. sever glitches? so that cant be repaired?

Messenger server glitches possibly yep, it will get solved by itself..nothin you can do about that (sometimes signin out and in makes a difference but no guarantees). If it's still like that a few days from now let me know

Some similar bug has posted here previously, please read it, you may find some similarities with your case. And Patchou is aware of this bug, I don't know if he has already done something for that. Events notification notifies ones appearing offline?

Err, I didn't mean that I want you to post your problem also there because if they were able to solve your problem,  they would have solved their own problems before

Check Change Log right after every Messenger Plus! update, you may see a sentence at one day like "Fixed: Event notification bug...blahblah"

i pretty much didnt understand that 2nd paragraph..
