O.P. WTF, why is it doing this
Well,
Whenever I put my laptop into standby it fucks up things:
It goes all speckly, i'm guessing it has to do with the graphic card/driver...
Can anyone rectify this problem?
Thank you.

Have you downloaded the latest drivers...
Is your gfx card a Nvidia Card because there was a few problems similar to this over at their forums.

Best to keep LSD away from your computer.
was put impeccably into words at DebianDay for me last Saturday, by Knut Yrvin of Trolltech - adults try something once, fail, and then are like "ffs this doesn't work". Children try, fail, and then try again, and succeed - maybe on the second, or even fifth retry. But the thing is that they keep at it and overcome the problems in the end.

Drivers are graphics card specific, not computer make specific. Therefore if you have an ATI card, it will have, and does have, ATI drivers. Get the correct drivers and see if this solves your problem.

Does this problem only occur on your Messenger conversation windows?

error: Sorry we do not support this make of laptop

RE: WTF, why is it doing this
Laptop drivers can be tricky and are usually special drivers although they run a very similar graphics card that is distributed for PCs. When it comes to looking for these drivers you have to look at the company who makes your laptop instead and I know with Toshiba, they don't update any drivers (though other companies may be different).
There are also usually hacks for some drivers to be able to be used on the laptop version of the graphics card and you could try them (nVidia ones need you to replace 2 files to do so I'm quite sure, I'm unsure about ATI), however, I personally would not attempt this and would prefer to put up with the minor inconvenience (though you can always roll-back your drivers I guess....).
