I don't remember what happened, but my USB port at the rear of my laptop stopped working, and whatever I plug in, it would display USB Device not recognized.

Later on, the other one of my rear USB ports displayed that error too. I have done a reformat of Vista, but yet, the problem has not resolved.

Help, anyone?

Can you re-call knocking it at all? Your laptop may of received a bash and the rear ports may have been damaged. Because you have re-formatted your computer, it doesn't sound like a software problem .

Nope. And the 2 slots crashed at 2 COMPLETELY different times too.

Well it does sound like a hardware problem, all I can recommend is you take it to a computer repair shop and get a quick opinion on the situation. Does the error happen with the same external device ?

If your motherboard is old, you might've fused the USB sockets. I've done this once before on a really old motherboard by repeatedly unplugging then replugging a PS/2 port mouse.

I'm not sure it ever applied to USB, but if it did, then that'll probably be your problem.

Laptop is pretty new. I got it in April.

Reinstall drivers, or get new ones from the laptop website.
