Last night when I was on msn chatting with a friend, I had a massive amount of bots request to add me to their contacts list.
In the space of just 3 minutes or so, I had 369 requests to be added to my contact list from bots. I say bots, because I use IRC and see similar behaviour from drones that attack the network I use. Email addresses were usually a few letters with 5 numbers @msn.com
As this nearly caused my PC to melt down, I needed to shut down messenger so I used the task manager, my CPU was chugging away at 98%.
When I attempted to log back into messenger, I received error code 80048823. So, I tried another method of logging in, through hotmail, and got a similar error. I reset my account through the alternative email method, reset the password to something ludicrous, and attempted to connect again.
I waited till this morning and attempted to connect again, failed - account blocked. Changed the password again through email, waited, failed - account blocked. Obviously my account exists or I wouldn't be able to attempt the password reset. I have already checked the other thread here:

I have also uninstaleld and reinstalled Windows Live Messenger, and can use it, with a new hotmail account that I set up in the mean time as a temporary fix so I could still keep in contact with my SO. So there are no firewall issues / proxy issues or anything else of that nature to do with my connection.
My stats are:
Telstra Cable
Windows XP SP2 Professional
Windows Live 8.1 (build 8.1.0178.00)
Is there anything else that can be done. I would prefer not to write this account off, I have contacts in there going back 7 years I would rather not lose.
