Correct me if I'm wrong, but a life sentence in Spain is 30 years.

40 years is the maximum you can get in Spain (according to Dutch TV), and that's what they will probably get in reality.  It isn't nearly as much as it sounds, 7 of them weren't even convicted.

There are certain cases, imo, where the death penalty is justified. The Yanks do it for one or two murders, which I don't quite agree with, but these guys are clearly fanatical past the point where being stuck in a jail cell for the rest of their lives (costing the Spanish people money, btw) isn't going to do them good.

And yeah. One of the 7 people who didn't get convicted was the supposed mastermind of the plot. Epic fail on the part of the prosecution.

I think lifetime torture for them will be good. They killed about 100 people and injured 1000. I think the sorrow that the families have to go through, and all the other crap will add up. Plus, they should have to give up all their money so that everything they do in "jail" would be out of their own pockets rather than their [Spanish] pockets. And if they run out of money, make them do some paid work, i.e., cleaning toilets or something.

As oposed to dieing as martyrs in the eyes of the people who support them, these people considering dieing for a cause they feel  is "good" one of the greatest honors!
They deserve to spend the rest of their life stuck in a cell with a large gay man called bubbles

I'd make them clean worse things then toilets for what they've done.
