O.P. MSN Messenger Issues
Hey there, everyone.

I'm having a couple of issues with MSN Messenger. My computer was affected with viruses and trojans so I had to pay to the worker to clean up all the mess and everything. Last night, I've downloaded MSN Messenger from the official site and now when I'm trying to change my display picture by clicking on the "Browse" button, the program automatically shuts down completely. This never happened to me before, seriously. In fact, this is my first issue ever with MSN. And not only that, it even shuts down whenever I click the links in IM conversations and the "Open Email Inbox" button (screenshot here - http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/7032/emaillinkfp0.jpg). Does anyone have any idea what's causing these issues? I tried a couple of times reinstalling MSN but it didn't worked.

Also, I even tried the Live version of Messenger and I'm having the same issue. Could it be because I've formatted my PC since I had some trojans and viruses? I'm also getting the problem while opening a conversation's log using Messenger Plus.

Oh and in case you need to know, I'm running on MSN Messenger 7.5 and Windows XP.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ok. Firstly, run your anti-virus and anti-spyware. I suggest:

Anti-virus: AVG Free
Anti-spyware: AdAware SE Personal

Search with both and delete all viruses and spyware. Then try.

So you wiped your computer clean? That would have got rid of all the viruses and trojans so you won't have any. After a format your PC should be fine and you shouldn't be getting these problems.

Firstly, What OS are you using?
which version of messenger are you using? (help > about messenger)

and are you using any add-ons or patches for messenger?

Okay, I'm downloading both programs now and will try again.

Nothing happens really. It just shuts down MSN completely without receiving any errors.

Yeah, it is supposed to get rid of all viruses and trojans but I dunno. The only program I'm having issues with is MSN which is weird.

Yeah but that's only the StuffPlug addon for Messenger Plus!. I'm not using any other addons besides that one.

Oh and I almost forgot. I'm even using the Multi MSN patch from messhits.com. So in total, Messenger Plus!, StuffPlug v2.2.397, and Multi MSN for 7.5.

Ok, well you need to do a fresh install of MSN Messenger. Remove MSN Messenger and Messenger Plus! from Add/Remove Programs. Restart PC. Now download and install MSN Messenger. Do not apply any patches. This is a clean install of MSN Messenger. See if you get the same problems. Then install Messenger Plus!.

It's most probably because of the patch. I'd suggest Mess Patch instead.

Okay, will do now. Do I have to remove any MSN folders in the "Program Files" as well or what?

Alright this is getting ridiculous. I've done exactly as you said and I'm still getting the same problems. :( Do you think I should do a FULL PC format (both C & D drives) because I've only formatted the drive C before.
