Yeah, I believe the binary files are the same, but WLM detects that you are running Vista with Aero and shows you more Vista-ish window buttons, nothing else. Both button styles are probably within WLM, and shown or not automatically

If you make a program in Visual Basic and run it on Windows 98, it will look "98-ish"; the same for Windows XP (I think you need to make a manifest file though). The caption buttons and other things (I would imaging are drawn by Windows itself using it's own internally stuffs :p

Yep, thats true. It's Windows itself that creates the (usually) creates the title bar, close, minimize, maximize and restore buttons based on the current Windows theme. You don't need to create a manifest file though (at least i never have)

Yep, but Windows XP doesn't have Aero buttons internally, right? At least Windows Live Messenger has built in those icons in case it's running on Windows XP, whereas on Windows Vista, it relies on the system's windowstyle functions and graphics.

Yep, you're right. That's why i said "usually".

You can always include you're own custom buttons to use in an application.

Just like the difference between the normal Plus windows drawn by the built-in interface, and the custom ones WLMWebStatus or Web2Live are using.

Also as far as I see on some Vista installed computers, those close, minimize buttons shines overflowly from the original windows frame, I mean the shiny effect crosses the frame of windows when we hover the mouse on them. But on XP, they can't display that effect, only the color of the button changes, that is it. There is no shine effect on XP normally. Can't it be done, or don't they simply want to do it?

XP does have a completely different 2D theme engine, whereas Vista relies completely on the 3D graphics card.
