I don't know where...

You have removed the button, either by a Messenger Patch (Mess Patch or A-Patch) or you skinned it. You have to disable these modifications in order to use this function. Do this by checking for a backup of "msgsres.dll" in your Windows Live Messenger folder.  Then replace the backup with the current one.

Unless someone is willing to write you a MP!L script that sends the WM_COMMAND message followed by the correct command ID for these actions. You can get these commands by reading windows messages with Spy++. It's not really hard at all.

I installed the new Messenger and there WASN'T any button like this.
I was wondering why......

Do you have Windows Blinds? It may be the reason. If you have it, adding Messenger to its exception list may solve the problem. Or uninstall Windows Blinds completely.

Or in the conversation window press ALT, then Tools > Show Toolbars > Tick standard
