O.P. Whats up with the hourly database defrag?
I just noticed that I'm getting an hourly db defrag for my WLM and add to that its taking up a lot of memory [sometimes up to 40MB]. Is it anything to do with have Plus! on it for the memory. Is there anyway I can control the defrag? I've got better things to do with my processing juice than defrag a db that is not as active or rather shouldn't be as active as it would make me believe it is.

Why is M$ trying to make life hard over simple things?

because being able to control the management of a quiet database that the user isn't supposed to know about in the first place makes things easier?

and, er, how do you know what it's doing?

O.P. RE: Whats up with the hourly database defrag?
Listen, I use my PC for a number of things and I've caught WLM causing a slow down in the PC when it hangs doing its thing. Sometimes its not all that evident but when you are trying to make use of every possible ounce of CPU you can get you'll notice. I'd be watching a movie, doing some development with VS2005... And it shouldn't matter what I do. My PC should be doing things that I can control.

Atleast there should be an option to allow me to set it to defrag once a day/week or month. I don't see the need for hourly defrags. And its this type of behavior which make M$ unpopular. Have u seen the lag that autosave creates on Xcel2007 when you are working with spreadsheets from prior version of Xcel? Worse if they have any VBA in the background. Outl00k 07 is the same...

I dual boot with linux on this PC and its just a lot of fun working with linux but since I do M$ platform support and dev...

If you really find it that bad then just transfer to a multi-protocol [i think thats wot they r called] client like Pidgin, if you like Messenger then you will have to put up with it because i dont think you can do anything about it *-)

My WLM always used to run at 40-60MB, try installing the Reduce MEM script.  I installed it, it runs seemlessly in the background (using Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0) and now my WLM useage is rarely over 10MB, sometimes even as low as 2-3MB

using reducemem is a stupid idea.

once again, HOW exactly do you know that wlm is defragging some database? and where do you expect them to put options for it if users don't even know it exists?
