O.P. Vista's Blocked it, I think!?
Hey i've been using Messenger plus for a while now on my beta of Messenger 9 and its always bee fine. This morning I signed into MSN to find that none of the Messenger plus! stuff was working. Thinking I could just uninstall & reinstall I went to the Programs & Features bit in my windows vista control panel and on the icon for Msgrplus there's a little circle with a line through like a blocked symbol or something.

Anyone know why this is?

How it can be fixed?

Thanks in advance.

Okay. So today I started up messenger and plus! began to work. Thought i'd check out the new skinning feature and that worked for a time. Then I went out and shut down my laptop. When i came back and restarted - and signed back into messenger - Plus! had stopped working again (bear in mind there's no error messages - just nothing - no options no nothing. ) So i walked up and down my firewall settings and set it to allow MPtools.exe through. This worked...until i restarted my computer and signed back into MSN - then it stopped again.

I've been unable to get it working since.

Any suggestions?

Which Firewall are you using?  It's beyond me why a firewall would be preventing Plus! from working properly, but dodgier things have happened...Did you recheck the firewall to see if it was limiting Plus! again after you rebooted?  Perhaps disable the firewall completely and see if the problem remains?  Thanks :).

Yes the problem remains.

I've even gone as far as uninstalling both messenger and messenger plus! and reinstalling them both clean.

Still nothing happens.

I'm on Vista Home Premium (ICK, and because I have a laptop right now) and WLM and Plus! Live work fine, no problems since I installed them. What firewall are you using?

Just using the default firewall. As i say, it's been fine up until 4 mornings ago - then it just ceased to work as if the program didn't exist at all.

Have you tried using the latest proper-non-leaked release, Windows Live Messenger 8.5?

yes i did. The problem started with 8.5 thanks, as i indicated in previous posts.

now, further to my attempts to get it running i notice two things

A) it only works again when I uninstall it, scrub my registry and reinstall it

and that B) it causes a slight conflict with the skin - it seems to want to put an extra "frame" which appears as transprarent at the top. This contains the information such as the main title and in the conversation boxes the "jamie - conversation" - i notice that when tabbed chats open, the information for "jamie - conversation" and someone else will overlap (presumably because there's no background information in the frame).

This takes effect until I exit msn messenger and the start it up again. The Plus! ceases to work once more.
Enclosed is what's going on whilst Plus! IS working - remember if i exit the program or restart my system it will cease to work. (and the phantom text at the top vanishes when its not working).

Here is the registry error that crops up and i have to clean before plus! will work (not that i had to install plus! twice each time).

Here is the panel with the ghost text at the top

and here it is with two tabs open

Does this shed any light on the matter?

Never mind - i fixed it myself.

Its a serious compatibility problem between Windowblinds 6 on Vista and WLMP! 4.50 (and previous versions).

Though i know not why - but you might want to warn other windowblinds 6 users on vista.
