O.P. Windows Live Messenger Shuts Down!
Hi, Everyone
Im new to this forum, this is my first post. Im trying to help my dad, his been
having problems with Live Messenger 8. He can sign in ok but after about 2hrs
he receives the following message " Your Connection With Windows Live
Messenger Is Lost " he then needs to sign in again, sometimes the session
only lasts 20min. then shuts down again. I have read the posts from other
members in a similar matter but it didn't help. His using Windows XP Home FireWall, AVG Antivirus, Ad-Aware and Spybot Search And Destroy. I uninstalled
and reinstalled it back, still doing the same thing. Any suggestions from other
members will be great, thank you.

RE: Windows Live Messenger Shuts Down!
Hi guys, I've had the same problem for probably over a year now. It gets worse when I have a bittorrent client on, even if said client isn't actually uploading or downloading anything, though it gets almost unbearably bad when it is. I just reinstalled Windows, no firewall or anything (except in my router, but that shouldn't count).. I've just about given up on it ever working properly.
My question is this: is there any way to reduce the reconnect delay? Apparently this delay was added to reduce server hammering, which is fair enough, but it could atleast try -once- before that massive 20 second delay. I've missed up to 5 messages because of that! I usually reconnect manually, but sometimes you don't notice, and if you've set it to log you in as Appear Offline or something and you reconnect manually, you'll be logged in with that status again, which I often forget. So is there any kind of script or setting I can use to make it reconnect immediately?
PS: I am using the latest version of both WLM and MsgPlus Live.

Thank you for the suggestion, I'll try them both. The second seems like what I was looking for, though the first also seems useful.

RE: Windows Live Messenger Shuts Down!
Hi. I have Windows Live Messenger version 2009, compilation 14.0.8089.726, with Windows 7. I find that MSN simply turns itself off frequently and without warning. The same thing happens about as frequently with Yahoo messenger (Yes, I know this is not a support forum for Yahoo messenger, I simply mention what happens as it may be somehow related).
I don't know if I'm hitting a keyboard key that is shutting down the programs, or if I an running short on system resources (I have a Sony Vaio Pentium Dual Core, 2009 notebook with 2GB of RAM).
The computer is one week old; I bought it brand new, so I am very confident that it is virus-free.

RE: Windows Live Messenger Shuts Down!
By turning off you mean "Signing out" or messenger actually closing itself (having to relauch the program)?

I mean the program actually has to be relaunched. It automatically relaunches itself after a couple of minutes, but of course if I am in the middle of a conversation, I do not wait for it to and usually relaunch it manually.
