Hello everyone,

I was playing around with my MSN settings when yesterday, MSN Messenger suddenly showed me as having a webcam with a webcam symbol on my chat windows. However, I did not install any webcam or hooked up any webcam to my computer.

How can I make the symbol go away and where is this mistake coming from?

If you go to:

Contact List > Tools  > Options > Personal Section of the Panel:

Under "Webcam" untick the box beside

"Allow others to see that I have a webcam"

Then OK.

i also have this problem.. i've tried unticking the webcam box but it still shows the webcam symbol.

It will always show your webcam icon to you, but not always to others. You will always be able to see others, if they allow it

so how come other people invite me to go on webcam every 5 seconds?

You can still invite people even if they don't let you see that they have a webcam

The portable versions of MSN (namely 7.5) have an error where it says both you and your contact have webcams - this going away when you click your or your contacts webcam icon. But someone I don't think you're using one of those if it's just started randomly recently.
