Whenever I press onto the handwrite function in MSN, my whole laptop will lag/hang for around 30 seconds then it goes back to normal.

What is happening? Any ideas how to fix it?

For now, I have disabled to handwrite function...I am quite sick of it hanging.

Try a repair installation of the Ink redistributable. If that doesn't work, try a total uninstall/reinstall of Messenger. Other than that, I don't know what else to try.
