RE: Ubuntu Issue
I don't think networking will require him to actually log in as root though, surely a quick sudo should be enough..

RE: Ubuntu Issue
Fair enough. Personally I think enabling and using root or using sudo are equally easy. =]

RE: Ubuntu Issue
Yeah, but i dont think his ever used the terminal ever . First linux using.
And now a days terminal isnt as important as it once was, more things can be done with the tools provided.
Makes it much easier for new users, and sometimes, quicker for the old

As he doesn't sound experienced, I wouldn't suggest letting loose as root: it's too easy to screw a system up like that.
At least with sudo, you have to purposefully type that.

Oh, login as root.
Do you know how to do that? As im currently in my Windows Boot (And cant get out of it right now, converting lots of movies ). I think you can into Groups and Users. Open up the user "root". And allow it to be logonable.
Once you have done that, logout of your current user. And then type root as username. And whatever password you specfied to log in as root.
Then try and do it
without reeading any of the other posts, there's no such thing as root. its just another username with all privelidges instead. that why you do "sudo" when needed.

please note my post before, when i login to ubuntu and do as said in the website it says permission denied. so what else do you suggest if not root?
