According to the download site for Messenger Plus! 3 it's supposed to be compatible with Windows Me... however, when I try to install it, it tells me that it "Requires a new version of Windows to run" and also presents a "A device attached to the system is not functioning warning."

Running the same downloaded file on XP works fine.

Is it a bug in the installer or my machine?

Very strange errors. All I can say is that they're not coming from Messenger Plus! itself. It seems like Windows is displaying this error for some reason, I'll have to try it again in Windows Me and see what happens.

I'm starting to wonder if this problem is simply related to VMWare (I don't see how though) as it does not run under Windows 98SE either.

Although perhaps it has been compiled using NT libraries?

I have run the latest Plus!3 (on latest MSN Messenger 7) on a Windows ME machine (till very recently this was my spare/second computer) and all worked fine.

Well that screen according to my eyes says Windows 95, that could be why?

Its Windows Me  it just says windows 95 at the top for some reason

It was called Windows 95 cause originally the Virtual Machine had Windows 95, but it wasn't stable so I formatted it and put on Me.

Patchou: If the error message is from Windows, is it possible that Windoze Installer is expecting a certain field to be set in the MSI, that you're not setting? Seems the most likely culprit to me.

I don't think the Plus! setup uses MSI, at least it doesn't look like it.
