O.P. CPU question
I'm buying parts for my new computer. For a cpu (all Intel), should I go for a Q6600, Q6700, Q9450 or something in the QX range?
Thanks

[Edit] I'm using the PC for gaming mainly

Q9450 IMO. The higher the clock speed the better, but offcourse it is more expensive.

QX9770 or GTFO (l)

But in reality, a Q6600 is just fine....it's what I got and I can play Crysis on Max Settings fine :p (with 4GB ram and 8800GT)

Lol at QX9770.
Im siding with the 6700 cos its not much more expensive than the 6600 and worth the extra money. the 9450 is a bit too pricey.

RE: CPU question
Just get a Q6600 and clock it to like 3.2 or something. Spend the extra money on a decent aftermarket cooler and clock it to 3.6 easy :P

I never usually over clock cos I don't feel the need to. And with cooling I will likely get something good anyway.

RE: CPU question
If you use it for gaming mainly and have a certain budget, I suggest you take a look at the E8x00 series and save some money for a better graphics card or something. There are very few games (Crysis is the only one I know of, but there may be more) which actually use the 4 cores of a Q series CPU, so until your new CPU is outdated for future games you probably won't need a quad core.
for example:
-The Q9450 @2.66GHz will run most modern games at 2.66GHz on 2 cores.
-the E8500 @3.16GHz is cheaper and will run most modern games at 3.16GHz, also on 2 cores.
-also, the E8400 @3.00GHz is quite a lot cheaper compared to the CPUs above and runs only 160MHz slower than the E8500

If you really want a quad core, go for the Q9450 (as it has SSE4.1 and it's a 45nm CPU, so it runs cooler) or a QX series CPU (if you can afford one, but it's not worth the extra money IMO).

Well, at the moment i have a 3.0Ghz P4 478 :|.
I'm kinda building it so I don't really need to until another 3 or even 4 years.
Isn't the Q6700 quieter than the Q6600> Unless I read the article wrong.
I'm looking at an 8800GTS (new one) for my GFX too.
