O.P. PC cannot see wireless networks
I've had so many problems recently 8-)

Anyway, I just installed a fresh copy of Vista on my new pc. But for some reason I can't find any networks. The drivers hava been installed properly. I've even used the XP driver as well as the Vista driver.
Before installing Vista, I was on XP which saw the wireless networks fine. It is not a router problem cos 3 other systems can see and connect fine. Any ideas?

the thing about vista is... it doesn't tell you if your adapter is actually off, i can add new networks, search for networks do anything relating wireless but my adapter is off, if i search for networks i just get no result but i know that there is one there, everytime i restart the machine the wireless is off, so maybe your adapter isn't on properly, but you think it is cos nothing tells you it is off.

Well, on the part of the card where the aerial is there are 2 green LEDs. One is called POWER and is static. The other is ACI which doesn't light up. IIRC the ACI used to flicker/flash every so often.

is there a manual switch for the wifi?
or do you just turn it on through the software?

There is no switch (its a PCI card) and I never used the software that came with it when it was working. I tried using it now and it can't find any networks either.
I'm using a Wifi Max USB dongle to connect atm and it works fine.
Seems like the PCI card is done for?

[Edit] The dongle keeps disconnecting and for me to get it to reconnect I need to disable then re-enable it to do it. Even then its only for a very short time.

Actually, if you try pressing "Diagnose a problem" it will tell you that your adapter is turned off ;)
I'll try posting screenshots later.

That is true. When I diagnose is just says the wireless network adapter on this computer cannot connect to a wireless network because there are none in range.

Bit of a bump and an update.

I formatted my drive and downgraded to XP and the wireless card (not the dongle) is working fine. How come this time around with Vista it did not work?

Yeh cos when I previously updated to Vista (this is like the 3rd I'm using Vista on this system) it worked fine without me even changing the drivers.
