how do you activate the contacts on desktop feature?

To show a contact on the desktop, right click on the contact in the contact list, and select "Messenger Plus! Features", then click "Display on Desktop" :)

To setup the general preferences, go to:

Plus! > Preferences > Messenger > Contacts on Desktop
